Suggestions for a carry knife

Postby kodama » Fri Feb 05, 2010 10:56 am

I have been debating purchasing a knife for carry. The problem is, I know nothing about them. All I know is I want a pocket folding knife, and It will be used more for utility purposes than anything else (opening up boxes, eating apples, etc). The two different types of steel was debating were 440c or SV30, but I am not sure if the sv30 would be overkill for my purposes. Anyone have an insight on what a good brand/steel type knife for me to look at?

You can not go wrong with an Emerson CQC7's fit nicely in the pocket. If you get an AW or BW you can open as you draw from your pocket. Spyderco has a similar feature on a few of their knives.

Now you best hurry on an Emerson purchase as in the past 30 days the price has gone up 30 dollars and does appear to keep climbing.

Graham has some nice folders as well for a good price

then there is good old benchmade, not my favorite even though it is one of my EDCs. Some are spring assisted some can be flippers.

Thanks Mains, I'll keep those in mind. Going to see what they have at the show this weekend. If I pick one up there, I will post it up.

It is really going to depend on how much money I have at the time I decide to buy. I am bringing $150 with me to the gun show, I already know I need ammo cans, and possible going to look for .38special dies/shell plates, .45acp reloading bullets, and spare mags. So my budget could range from $0 to $125ish after the show.

I am not a fan of Spyderco, here is an unwaved one that seems to be well liked by many people...

here is a waved Spyderco

I don't like them because they feel cheap (but I guess at that price point thats what you have to expect)
EKI (Emerson) will be out of your budget unless you find one used, and yes there are many fakes out there.
Benchmades are really just other makers grinds labeled as bench, so some are good some are not IMHO.

First, you must choose the best knife for you, but for me it's nice to bring always a pocket folding knife.I have also a collection of cold steel ti-lite knives
